Dogecoin futures open interest has climbed to 15.36 billion tokens, the highest level seen in a year, while the token’s price rose about 10%. Open interest measures the number of active futures contracts still on the books, and the latest move shows a clear increase in leveraged positioning tied to Dogecoin.

Binance leads while activity spreads across major venues

Binance held the largest share of Dogecoin futures exposure, with open positions reaching 3.99 billion tokens. Bitget, Bybit, and OKX each posted more than 1 billion tokens in open interest as well. Hyperliquid, MEXC, WhiteBIT, and KuCoin also recorded notable volumes, pointing to broad participation across the derivatives market rather than a buildup isolated on one exchange.

The combination of a rising spot price and rising futures open interest is often read as a sign that fresh capital is entering the trade. It is not just a reshuffling of existing positions. That setup can support stronger upside momentum, but it also leaves the market more exposed to fast liquidations if sentiment turns and leverage starts to unwind.

Dogecoin draws attention as Bitcoin slips below $76,000

Dogecoin’s volatility stood out this week as Bitcoin pulled back from $79,000 and fell below the $76,000 level. During that stretch, CryptoAppsy data showed Dogecoin trading near $0.105. The contrast between weakness in Bitcoin and expanding Dogecoin futures exposure has put extra focus on the memecoin’s short-term direction.

Whale buying, new ETP listing, and returning inflows

Analysts tied the renewed interest in Dogecoin to several catalysts appearing at the same time. Jordan Jefferson, founder of DogeOS and MyDoge, said large investors accumulated more than 500 million DOGE over the past week. On the institutional side, 21Shares launched a spot-based Dogecoin ETP on Xetra, while Grayscale saw inflows resume after nine straight days of outflows.

On-chain data also showed stronger participation. Active wallet addresses increased by 28%, a sign that network engagement was picking up alongside market activity. Jefferson said Dogecoin’s recent move was not driven by a single event, but by a mix of whale accumulation, new exchange-traded products, shifting fund flows, and stronger on-chain usage.

Speculation around X payments remains unconfirmed

Dogecoin still trades mainly as a speculative memecoin rather than as a mainstream payments asset. Sentiment, thematic trading, and large-holder activity can all trigger abrupt moves, which is why the token continues to carry a reputation for sharp volatility.

Another theme in circulation is the possibility that X, the platform owned by Elon Musk, may introduce a payments system with upfront payments, bank integrations, and rewards. No official statement has confirmed whether Dogecoin or any other cryptocurrency will be included. Even so, Musk’s long-running support for Dogecoin has kept those expectations active, and recent futures positioning suggests traders are leaning into that possibility.
