On-chain data is messy—transaction hashes, addresses, block sizes, and gas fees piled together. Dune Analytics translates that raw information from blockchains like Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Solana into tables and charts that anyone can read.

From Oslo to Unicorn

Fredrik Haga and Mats Olsen founded the platform in Oslo in 2018. After a $69.42 million Series B led by Coatue with Dragonfly Capital and Multicoin Capital, the company hit a $1 billion valuation and dropped "Analytics" from its name. Today it's simply Dune.

Where Does the Data Come From?

Dune pulls raw on-chain data through node providers and also integrates selected off-chain sources. For EVM-compatible chains, it offers both raw and decoded data formats. More than 280,000 smart contracts have been decoded. Users query these tables using SQL (PostgreSQL or the newer DatabricksSQL) to get the info they need. No SQL skills? You can hire a "wizard"—Dune's term for advanced analysts—or learn through free and paid tutorials.

Query results can be turned into dashboards and published publicly. Anyone can browse them without an account, but to create queries you'll need to register for free.

Free vs Paid Tiers

Free users can view all public dashboards and run queries. To keep dashboards private, export CSV, or skip the query queue, you'll need Dune Plus ($399/month) or Dune Premium ($999/month). Team accounts allow roles like admin, editor, and viewer.

Getting Started

Go to dune.com and search for keywords like "Uniswap" or "NFT" to find relevant dashboards. To build your own, register, click "New Query," pick a blockchain, select a dataset, run your SQL, visualize the results, and publish. You can also fork other users' queries and modify them. All your work appears under "My Creations."

Dashboards update automatically when viewed—no manual refresh needed. Dune has no token; investing requires deep pockets and a spot in a future funding round.

Supported chains include Ethereum, Bitcoin, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Solana, Gnosis Chain, Polygon, Avalanche, Fantom, Goerli, and Optimism. Notable customers: Messari, ConsenSys, Uniswap, Compound, and Argent.
