Errol Musk, the father of Elon Musk, has publicly backed a Solana-based memecoin called “Musk It” and said he hopes the project can help raise $200 million to fund a think tank. The endorsement has quickly drawn attention in crypto circles, linking the Musk name once again to speculative momentum in digital assets.

A sharp price reaction, but limited disclosure

According to the report, Musk It was launched in December 2024 by a Middle Eastern company and was described as having a pump-and-dump style rollout. The token had struggled after launch, but sentiment changed after Errol Musk and his business partner, technology consultant Nathan Browne, lent their support. CoinMarketCap data cited in the report showed the token briefly reaching an all-time high of around $0.09. At the time of reporting, it was trading near $0.04, implying a market capitalization of roughly $40 million, with a total supply of 1 billion tokens.

Even so, the project remains thin on substance. Key details, including its intended use case, tokenomics, and the identity of the team behind it, have not been clearly disclosed. A “coming soon” website reportedly exists, but offers little more than branding and logos associated with Elon Musk’s companies.

Elon Musk is not involved

The report makes clear that Elon Musk has no formal connection to Musk It. Still, the token appears to benefit from the attention that naturally follows the Musk surname. Errol Musk said he had discussed the token with Elon as recently as the same month and suggested the project was partly inspired by remarks Elon made in 2023 when speaking positively about his father.

Elon Musk is already a major figure in crypto culture. He has promoted Dogecoin for years and is widely known in the community as the “Dogefather.” His company Tesla also holds 9,720 BTC in its corporate treasury, worth more than $1 billion based on the figures cited in the source. That backdrop helps explain why any token tied, even indirectly, to the Musk name can attract rapid speculative interest.

Name recognition drives the narrative

From a market perspective, Musk It fits a familiar memecoin pattern: attention fueled by celebrity association, controversy, and short-term price action. At this stage, the token’s most visible features are not technology or utility, but rather limited transparency and name-driven hype.

Responding to criticism that he was profiting from his son’s fame, Errol Musk appeared unapologetic, saying he was the head of the family and had been “Musking it” for years. For investors, the episode is another reminder that memecoin rallies can generate intense buzz quickly, but long-term credibility still depends on clear disclosure, governance, and a real use case.
