Eric Trump said at Bitcoin 2026 in Las Vegas that the US government holds 300,000 BTC and does not plan to sell. The comment pushed the discussion beyond short-term price action and toward a supply question: how much Bitcoin is still meaningfully available if more large holders are buying and keeping it off the market.
Tighter supply becomes part of the argument
Trump described Bitcoin as going through a “compression” phase. His point was that the usual focus on the asset’s 21 million coin cap misses a more immediate issue for the market. A share of Bitcoin has been lost, and another large share is held by long-term owners who are not actively selling.
He said selling pressure is being replaced by stickier ownership, with long-term holders taking ground from short-term traders. In that framing, Bitcoin’s effective circulating supply is tighter than the headline supply number suggests.
Wall Street firms are changing their posture
Trump also pointed to a shift inside traditional finance. He cited JPMorgan Chase, saying CEO Jamie Dimon had once criticized Bitcoin but now allows clients to borrow against BTC for mortgages. He also said Charles Schwab is preparing Bitcoin custody for its large user base, which he presented as a sign of deeper institutional acceptance.
BlackRock was another example in his remarks. According to Trump, the firm’s Bitcoin ETFs have been highly successful, and yield strategies are now being built on top of those products, expanding institutional exposure through more layered offerings.
Corporate buyers and sovereign holders enter the picture
Beyond banks and asset managers, Trump said companies and governments are also accumulating. On the corporate side, he named Michael Saylor’s company and Metaplanet as aggressive Bitcoin buyers. On the sovereign side, he repeated that the US holds about 300,000 BTC and is not selling.
He also referred to parts of the Middle East using excess energy capacity to mine Bitcoin, turning unused resources into long-term assets. In his telling, corporate accumulation, sovereign holdings, and energy-backed mining all point to a market structure that looks less speculative and more reserve-driven than in earlier cycles.
He called the past six months transformational
Trump said the last six months had been “transformational” compared with the previous three years and argued that the current phase is only beginning. The article does not include independent verification of the US government’s Bitcoin holdings or any official filing; the claim was presented as part of his public comments at the event.
