The Ethereum Foundation has highlighted four new organizations that joined its ecosystem over the past year, each tasked with distinct responsibilities: research, application adoption, network coordination, and infrastructure maintenance. The move signals a continued push toward broader Ethereum utilization.
Ethlabs: Targeting a Global Settlement Layer
Newly launched Ethlabs operates as a non-profit R&D lab with a core mission to make Ethereum the settlement layer for the global economy. The group says it collaborates with users, applications, wallets, L2 teams, infrastructure providers, institutions, ETH holders, core developers, and researchers. Ethlabs plans to translate ecosystem needs into protocol work, shared standards, infrastructure, and products.
Funding and support for Ethlabs come from Bitmine, Sharplink, Joseph Lubin, SNZ Holding, and more than 50 other participants across Ethereum. The group describes itself as part of a broader contributor network, not a central authority.
Ethereum Application Guild: Emerging Markets First
Launched in April 2026, the Ethereum Application Guild is a global non-profit focused on moving Ethereum applications toward real-world use, with an emphasis on emerging markets. The foundation notes the guild operates through local communities and organizers rather than a top-down approach. These regions have produced new builders and applications but previously received limited support from the wider ecosystem.
Ethereum Economic Zone: Reducing Fragmentation
Also launched in 2026, the Ethereum Economic Zone aims to reduce fragmentation among Ethereum-compatible networks and improve ecosystem-wide coordination. The initiative seeks smoother cross-chain interaction and unified liquidity frameworks.
Argot Collective: Maintaining Solidity and Compiler Tooling
Incorporated in 2025, Argot Collective maintains Solidity and the open-source compiler tools used across the ecosystem. The collective also supports research into programming languages and developer tools. Since formation, Argot has released updates, maintained compiler infrastructure, and supported tooling research.
Foundation: Multiple Organizations for Ecosystem Stewardship
The Ethereum Foundation says stewardship of Ethereum should involve multiple organizations committed to building infrastructure for self-sovereignty. It expects more contributors to join over time. The newly added groups, all formed within the past year, collectively strengthen Ethereum’s technical, application, and community resilience.
