Ethereum Foundation (EF) management member and CSA Operator Aerugo recently published a long-form post systematically articulating the foundation's mission. Aerugo stated that EF's core mission is to ensure Ethereum becomes and remains a truly permissionless sovereign infrastructure — censorship-resistant, capture-resistant, open-source, private, and secure — capable of supporting large-scale trust-minimized coordination.

Two Core Challenges: MEV and Default Privacy Shortfall

Aerugo emphasized that EF's work focuses on eliminating extractive and capture risks that may emerge at Ethereum's protocol layer. He identified the two major current challenges as Maximum Extractable Value (MEV) and the lack of default privacy. Aerugo described MEV as 'the main battlefield for the next crypto punk war' and warned that a public ledger without serious default privacy is essentially surveillance infrastructure with settlement guarantees. This view underscores the foundation's high priority on Ethereum's underlying security and user sovereignty.

Organizational Adjustments and Future Direction

On the organizational front, Aerugo revealed that EF will spin off some work outside the foundation in the future, while maintaining strict standards for external funding. He also addressed recent staff departures, noting they are part of normal institutional adjustments. EF will handle personnel matters with dignity and will not publicize internal issues. This statement aims to allay external concerns about the foundation's internal stability, emphasizing operational normality and transparency.
