The Ethereum ecosystem saw major developments this week as the Foundation executed a treasury sale, Aave moved to contain the fallout from the rsETH incident, and institutional staking activity contrasted with ETF outflows. The market is navigating a complex landscape of recovery efforts and short-term caution.

Ethereum Foundation Treasury Moves

On April 24, the Ethereum Foundation disclosed an over-the-counter sale of 10,000 ETH to Bitmine at an average price of $2,387, generating approximately $24 million. Proceeds will support core operations, protocol development, ecosystem growth, and community grants. The Foundation also executed a treasury swap with Lido and Mellow, exchanging 21,269 aWETH for wstETH as part of a deleveraging strategy. Total holdings now stand at about 92,538 ETH, with further adjustments expected.

Aave's DeFi United Proposal

The recent rsETH cross-chain bridge attack created a shortfall of roughly 163,183 ETH for Aave. Through asset recovery, freezes, and liquidations, the gap has been reduced to 75,081 ETH. Aave DAO proposed deploying 25,000 ETH from its treasury into a recovery fund named 'DeFi United.' So far, 14,570 ETH has been pledged, with Mantle offering a loan facility of up to 30,000 ETH. While the initiative has received initial support, Aave's total deposits have slumped to around $28.6 billion — a 37% decline since the incident, underscoring the severity of the attack's impact on DeFi liquidity.

Institutional Activity and Market Signals

Despite DeFi headwinds, institutional interest remained robust. On April 23, Grayscale Ethereum Mini Trust staked 102,400 ETH (worth ~$237 million) through its Ethereum Staking ETF product, signaling long-term conviction. However, spot Ethereum ETFs recorded a net outflow of $75.936 million on the same day, ending a 10-day inflow streak. In contrast, Bitcoin spot ETFs saw $223 million in inflows. Meanwhile, KuCoin launched KuCard, a Mastercard-backed crypto payment card in Australia, enabling users to spend ETH and other cryptocurrencies globally.

Price Outlook

Ethereum's price held near $2,317, relatively stable amid the news. The Foundation's treasury management and Aave's recovery plan provide long-term catalysts, but short-term ETF outflows and market uncertainty weigh on sentiment. As the ecosystem evolves, the interplay between DeFi innovation, institutional participation, and retail confidence will shape Ethereum's trajectory.
