Total Processing, a merchant services company, has released a study analyzing the most-watched cryptocurrency videos on YouTube over the past 12 months. The data shows that while Bitcoin has surged 700% since April 2020, Ethereum has outperformed it with a 1,100% price increase and even greater dominance in video viewership. Ethereum-related content accumulated 231 million views, compared to Bitcoin's 199.9 million views.
Ethereum Leads, Chainlink and Cardano Follow
The study examined the top ten cryptocurrencies by YouTube video viewership from April 2020 to April 2021. After Ethereum, Bitcoin holds the second spot, but the gap is significant. Chainlink (LINK) secured third place with 45.7 million views, followed by Cardano (ADA) with 43 million views. Total Processing notes that these two assets have roughly one-fifth the viewership of the leaders, underscoring the dominant attention on ETH and BTC.
Other cryptocurrencies in the top ten include XRP (38.5 million), Litecoin (LTC, 27.5 million), Uniswap (UNI, 27.3 million), Binance Coin (BNB, 25.4 million), Tether (USDT, 22.8 million), and Polkadot (DOT, 18.8 million). The study processed over 10,000 YouTube videos to compile these rankings.
Influencer Impact: One Video Drives 189% Price Surge
Beyond view counts, the research highlights the power of crypto content creators. For instance, a video by the channel JRNY Crypto titled 'Which Altcoins I'm Buying' led to a 189.68% spike in the price of StormX (STMX) within seven days. This demonstrates how YouTube influencers can directly affect market dynamics, especially for smaller-cap tokens.
Total Processing emphasizes that YouTube has become an integral part of the cryptocurrency ecosystem, serving as both an educational platform and a price discovery engine. As the crypto market matures, video content will likely continue to shape investor sentiment and asset valuations.
