What is XO Pay?
Exodus has officially launched XO Pay, a new crypto purchasing feature that allows users to buy and sell digital assets directly within the Exodus mobile wallet, without needing to go through third-party exchanges. The feature is now live across the United States and is designed to simplify the process for users to purchase cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. With XO Pay, users can complete transactions in a self-custodial manner, keeping full control of their assets at all times.
How XO Pay Works and Its Self-Custody Advantage
XO Pay is powered by Coinme's Crypto-as-a-Service (CaaS) API platform, which provides the infrastructure for wallet apps to integrate crypto purchase capabilities. By leveraging Coinme's APIs, Exodus has created a seamless Web2 checkout experience that bridges into a Web3 self-custody wallet. This means that when users buy Bitcoin, the assets are deposited directly into their self-custodial wallet, with private keys fully under their control. The design ensures fast transaction speeds and a familiar user experience while preserving the core decentralized principle of self-sovereignty.
JP Richardson, Co-Founder and CEO of Exodus, stated in a press release: "XO Pay represents our commitment to making cryptocurrency more accessible to everyday customers. By integrating the purchasing process directly into our mobile wallet, we're removing barriers and simplifying the journey from fiat to crypto, and back." Neil Bergquist, CEO and co-founder of Coinme, added: "By creating a Web2 checkout experience into a Web3 self-custody wallet, Exodus has set a new bar for crypto user experience. Exodus' innovative integration of Coinme's APIs delivers the seamless in-app purchase flow users expect while keeping them in full control of their assets."
Industry Impact and Future Outlook
The launch of XO Pay is part of Exodus' broader mission to make digital assets more secure, especially as demand for Bitcoin continues to grow. This self-custody purchase model not only lowers the barrier for new users but also reinforces the crypto mantra "not your keys, not your coins." As the regulatory landscape in the United States becomes clearer, services like XO Pay that prioritize user autonomy may gain greater traction among mainstream adopters. Exodus has indicated plans to support more cryptocurrencies and expand to additional regions in the future, further extending the reach of XO Pay.
