Ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee statement, CME FedWatch data showed the market assigning a 70.6% probability that the Federal Reserve will leave rates unchanged at today’s meeting, while the probability of a cumulative 25 basis point hike stood at 29.4%.
The same data also outlined expectations for September. The probability that the Fed will still be holding rates unchanged by then was 17.8%. Markets were pricing in a 60.2% chance of a cumulative 25 basis point increase by September, and a 22% chance of a cumulative 50 basis point increase.
