FixedFloat, a decentralized instant crypto exchange, has tightened its compliance rules for transactions linked to Huobi or HTX, following the United Kingdom’s sanctions against Huobi Global S.A. over alleged links to Russia. Incoming funds originating from Huobi will now be suspended and subjected to additional verification, the platform said.

FixedFloat Adds Huobi Fund Screening

“Funds originating from Huobi will be suspended by our service and will be subject to additional verification,” FixedFloat stated. The company did not disclose how long reviews may take or how deep it will trace transaction history. Security researcher OrangeFren warned users to exercise caution when handling coins that previously passed through Huobi or HTX, as screening could affect recipients who obtained funds after they left the exchange.

UK Sanctions and HTX Legal Dispute

The UK designated Huobi Global S.A. on May 26 under its Russia sanctions framework. The official notice lists “HTX,” “HTX Exchange,” and the domain htx.com as associated details. The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation later stated it considers HTX subject to the measures because Huobi owns it. For UK firms, the rules include asset freezes and restrictions on processing payments involving a designated party.

HTX disputes that position, claiming Huobi Global S.A. is separate from its operating platform. It said user funds remained unaffected and plans to engage with UK authorities to clarify the situation.

ZachXBT Warns of Wallet Tainting Risks

Blockchain investigator ZachXBT called the UK action “a bit of an overreach.” He noted that HTX serves many retail users in Asia, which could cause compliance systems to label unrelated wallets as risky. “Risk itself has become meaningless,” he said, adding that some screening tools struggle to distinguish pre-sanction activity from post-sanction transfers.

Crypto can move through many wallets before reaching a new owner. A user may receive funds with an old HTX link without knowing the full transaction history. FixedFloat has not clarified whether every past connection will trigger review or only direct transfers.

The UK said it had reasonable grounds to suspect Huobi Global provided financial services to Russia-linked entities A7 and Garantex. HTX has rejected any connection between the sanctioned company and its exchange operations.

FixedFloat’s policy shows how one government’s sanctions decision can shape screening outside traditional banking. Users sending funds with a Huobi or HTX history now face checks without being accused of wrongdoing. The notice did not grant exemptions for verified retail users.
