Flare Networks today announced the successful minting of 100 million FXRP, a wrapped version of XRP, on its platform. This enables an equivalent 100 million XRP to earn yield through decentralized finance (DeFi) activities within the Flare ecosystem.
How FXRP Works and Its Significance
FXRP is an XRP-pegged token built on Flare, secured by the network's State Connector and Flare Time Series Oracle (FTSO) to maintain a 1:1 peg with native XRP. Users lock XRP into a smart contract to receive FXRP, which can then be used in various DeFi protocols on Flare for lending, liquidity provision, or staking to generate returns. This solves XRP's native inability to directly engage in DeFi, significantly enhancing asset utility.
Flare co-founder and CEO Hugo Philion stated, “Minting 100 million FXRP is a milestone that proves XRP holders can earn passive income without selling their assets. We are opening a new financial era for XRP.”
Market Response and Price Movements
Following the news, Flare's native token FLR rose 0.11%, FXRP gained 0.52%, and XRP itself increased 0.78%. While the gains were modest, market sentiment toward XRP's DeFi expansion is positive.
Flare recently partnered with D'CENT Wallet to launch XRP Yield Vaults and formed the XRP Alliance to lower user entry barriers. Earlier, D'CENT Wallet had enhanced XRP access through biometrics and DeFi integration.
Implications for the XRP Ecosystem
XRP has long been used for cross-border payments, but its DeFi applications were limited by the native network's programmability. Flare's FXRP equips XRP with smart contract capabilities, enabling it to participate in staking, lending, and liquidity mining. This could attract more institutional holders seeking yield and bring additional locked value to Flare, creating a positive feedback loop.
With regulatory progress such as the CLARITY Act, institutional interest in XRP is rising. Analysts say the successful FXRP minting may prompt more XRP holders to move assets to Flare, boosting network activity and liquidity.
The Flare team plans to launch more FXRP-related DeFi products, including stablecoin pools and insurance protocols. They are also in talks with multiple centralized exchanges to support direct FXRP trading, further expanding its circulation.
