ChainCatcher reported that U.S.-based stablecoin and payments company Frax has submitted an application to ICANN for its own top-level domain, .frax. The company said it is the first top-level domain application from a crypto company disclosed by ICANN.
The filing is part of ICANN’s 2026 new generic top-level domain program and was submitted with support from MarkMonitor, an ICANN-accredited corporate domain registrar. If delegated, .frax would become a global internet top-level domain similar to .com and .org.
Frax said it plans to use Frax Name Service to let users own and manage .frax domains on its Fraxtal blockchain, while also allowing them to resolve through the global domain name system. The company said related registrations will feed into the Frax Burn Engine and permanently burn FRAX.
Founder Sam Kazemian said, 「Crypto naming systems make internet identity ownable, and ICANN domains make it universally reachable. .frax combines the two, with the goal of keeping ownership onchain, making domains usable everywhere, and turning them into programmable financial endpoints for people, businesses, applications, and AI agents.」
Frax said the initiative will also extend the financial network it is building around the fully backed digital dollar frxUSD and the institutional connectivity platform FraxNet. The company said it plans to explore agent and machine payment functions for .frax domains, including support for standards such as x402, so websites, applications, and autonomous software agents can identify counterparties, access services, and programmatically initiate stablecoin payments.
Frax added that it has served users since 2020 and ranked No. 5 in the stablecoin category of Fortune Crypto 100 in 2026.
