French tennis star Gaël Monfils, known as “Sliderman” for his on-court showmanship, has officially joined the world’s leading social trading network eToro as a brand ambassador. A promotional video featuring Monfils, released in late May, has already garnered nearly 4 million views. In the video and subsequent interviews, Monfils shared his journey into cryptocurrency trading on eToro, revealing that he achieved a profit of approximately 75% on his crypto investments.
From Tennis Court to Crypto Trader
Monfils, 31, reached a career-high ranking of world No. 6 in 2016 and has played in two Grand Slam semifinals (both at the US Open). Known for his athleticism, he has been described by The Sunday Times as “the most interesting guy in tennis” and praised by former world No. 1 Andy Murray as the best athlete in the sport. Despite his aggressive playing style, Monfils considers himself risk-averse when it comes to personal finance. He chose eToro for its wide selection of cryptocurrencies and innovative investment tools, including CopyTrader and CopyFunds.
Monfils learned about the award-winning platform from his brother-in-law and began actively trading on eToro in 2017. “I use it while traveling and it gives me some independence with my money,” he told The Times on the eve of Wimbledon. “I have a diverse portfolio, with a particular interest in big tech stocks.”
Cryptocurrency Trading Experience
Monfils disclosed that he invested in Ethereum, Litecoin, XRP, and Bitcoin on eToro. He sold most of his crypto holdings last year (2017) and realized a healthy profit. “I sold out but have some left as a long-term investment, which I am not touching,” he said. “I find cryptocurrencies fascinating – it’s futuristic, definitely novel, quite volatile, and it’s interesting how and why they built it. I made a very good profit; I could have had more, for sure, if I had held it for a bit longer, but I sold it at the right time for me. I think I made close to 75% profit.”
Despite the impressive returns, Monfils emphasized his cautious approach to risk. “I know how hard I have worked to win my money. I’m a very safe person in terms of risking money. It’s so hard to earn the money – why would I then risk it?” he added.
Sponsorship and Platform Appeal
Monfils finds eToro’s service “ace” and encourages users worldwide to join the platform. Given his track record in crypto trading, his portfolio is a valuable option for users looking to utilize the CopyTrader tool, which allows investors to automatically copy the trades of top performers. Monfils’ story highlights how even professional athletes can participate in the crypto market in a controlled manner.
