David Grider, a strategist at Fundstrat Global Advisors, has predicted that Ethereum (ETH) could rally to $10,500 per unit, representing a nearly 700% upside from its current price around $1,300. The forecast is based on Ethereum's central role in decentralized finance (DeFi) and its ongoing network upgrade.
DeFi Boom Fuels Ethereum's Value Reassessment
Grider noted that Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, will continue to benefit from its close relationship with DeFi applications, the majority of which are built on the Ethereum blockchain. The DeFi ecosystem experienced massive growth in 2020, providing strong demand for ETH. He also pointed out that Ethereum's three-part upgrade aims to transform it into the blockchain for an entire financial system, capable of processing transactions at a scale comparable to Mastercard and Visa.
“Ether is the best risk/reward investment play in crypto,” Grider said, adding that “blockchain computing may be the future of the cloud.” However, he cautioned that delays in the network upgrade or a bearish turn in the crypto market could pose significant risks.
Technical and Fundamental Alignment
Ethereum surged 12% to a record high of nearly $1,440 on Tuesday amid increased buying pressure. Luis Cuende, co-founder of decentralized autonomous organization Aragon, commented: “When thinking about what the Web 3.0 vision provides, institutional investors will recognize that although sovereign digital currency (BTC) is central, the importance of a programmable economy (ETH) should not be underestimated.” He added: “ETH fundamentals are as robust as ever. Ethereum has actually found early product-market fit, and the protocol is making revenue. ETH is definitely maturing as an asset.”
Cuende sees ether trading between $2,500 and $7,500 in the near term. He also believes that Ethereum rivals such as Polkadot, Cosmos, and NEAR “are well-positioned to capture a meaningful market share” until ETH 2.0 is completed.
Overall, Fundstrat's optimistic outlook has injected new confidence into the market, but investors should remain cautious about short-term volatility and upgrade risks.
