Fundstrat strategist David Grider argues Ethereum could reach $10,500 after hitting a new record high, citing DeFi expansion and the long-term promise of Ethereum’s multi-stage network upgrade, while warning of execution and market risks.

Ethereum may still have substantial upside even after setting a fresh all-time high, according to Fundstrat Global Advisors strategist David Grider, who said the cryptocurrency could climb to $10,500 per coin. At the time of the call, ether was trading above the $1,300 range, implying a potential gain of nearly 700% if that target were eventually reached.

Fundstrat’s bull thesis centers on DeFi

Grider’s outlook is rooted in Ethereum’s dominant role in decentralized finance. As the second-largest crypto asset after bitcoin, ether has become deeply tied to the growth of DeFi applications, most of which are built on the Ethereum blockchain. That ecosystem saw rapid expansion in 2020, and the report suggests that continued growth in on-chain lending, trading, and other financial use cases could further strengthen demand for Ethereum’s network and native asset.

In that framework, Ethereum is not being valued only as a cryptocurrency, but also as the settlement and computation layer for a growing digital financial system. That distinction is central to the Fundstrat thesis: if DeFi continues to scale on Ethereum, then ETH could benefit both from increased utility and from its broader role in powering blockchain-based applications.

Ethereum upgrades seen as a long-term catalyst

Another major pillar of the price target is Ethereum’s ongoing network upgrade. Grider said the recent upgrade path supports the idea that Ethereum is aiming to become blockchain infrastructure for an entire financial system. Once the full three-part process is completed, he argued, the network could potentially handle transaction volumes comparable to major payment companies such as Mastercard and Visa.

That scalability narrative matters because one of the biggest questions around Ethereum has long been whether it can support mainstream financial activity at meaningful scale. For bullish analysts, the upgrade is more than a technical event; it is a long-term structural change that could expand Ethereum’s addressable market and reinforce the investment case for ETH.

Grider summarized the view bluntly, saying ether is the best risk/reward investment play in crypto. He also suggested that blockchain computing could become part of the future of cloud infrastructure, a comment that broadens the Ethereum story beyond payments and into digital computing and programmable finance.

Risks remain despite the optimistic outlook

Even with that aggressive target, the report did not frame Ethereum’s path as risk-free. Two key concerns were highlighted: delays in the network upgrade process and a broader shift in crypto market sentiment toward bearish conditions. Both factors could undermine momentum, compress valuations, or postpone the timeline for Ethereum’s larger adoption story.

These caveats are particularly relevant because high-conviction crypto forecasts often depend not just on technology delivery, but also on sustained investor appetite. If Ethereum’s upgrade roadmap encounters setbacks, or if macro sentiment turns against digital assets, the path toward a five-figure ETH price could become far more difficult.

Record high adds momentum to the narrative

Ethereum’s bullish backdrop was reinforced by recent market action. The asset jumped 12% on Tuesday to nearly $1,440, setting a new record high amid stronger buying pressure. That move added credibility to the view that investors were already re-pricing ETH in response to both rising adoption and a more expansive long-term narrative.

For market participants, fresh highs often serve as confirmation that capital is rotating into an asset with strengthening fundamentals. In Ethereum’s case, the rally appears to have been interpreted not merely as speculative momentum, but as a reflection of growing confidence in its utility, ecosystem, and strategic importance within crypto markets.

Other industry voices remain positive, though more measured

Luis Cuende, cofounder of the decentralized autonomous organization Aragon, also expressed confidence in Ethereum’s trajectory. He argued that as institutional investors think more seriously about the Web 3.0 vision, they may conclude that while bitcoin remains central as a form of sovereign digital money, the role of ETH in a programmable economy should not be underestimated.

Cuende said Ethereum’s fundamentals remain strong, adding that the network has found early product-market fit and that the protocol is already generating revenue. In his view, these are important signals that ETH is maturing as an asset class rather than remaining purely a speculative token.

Still, his price expectations were more conservative than Fundstrat’s. Cuende said he sees ether trading in a range between $2,500 and $7,500. He also noted that competing smart-contract platforms including Polkadot, Cosmos, and NEAR are well positioned to capture meaningful market share while Ethereum 2.0 remains incomplete.

What the forecast means for investors

Fundstrat’s $10,500 target represents one of the more ambitious Ethereum forecasts tied directly to the convergence of DeFi expansion and infrastructure upgrades. The underlying argument is that Ethereum could emerge not just as a leading crypto asset, but as a foundational layer for internet-native finance and blockchain computing.

At the same time, the range of views in the market shows that enthusiasm is not uniform. Bulls see Ethereum’s network effects, developer activity, and scaling roadmap as reasons for substantial upside. More cautious observers agree on the strength of the fundamentals, but point to execution risk and rising competition as reasons to temper expectations.

For now, Ethereum’s investment case appears to be centered on one question: can the network successfully translate its early lead in DeFi and programmable applications into durable, large-scale financial infrastructure? If the answer is yes, forecasts like Fundstrat’s may continue to gain attention. If not, the market may increasingly reward rival blockchains that can deliver similar functionality with fewer bottlenecks.
