Fundstrat strategist David Grider says Ethereum could climb to $10,500, citing DeFi expansion and Ethereum’s long-term upgrade path, while other market voices also see strong upside but note execution and market risks.

Fundstrat Global Advisors strategist David Grider believes ethereum could rally to $10,500 per coin after the asset posted a fresh all-time high. At the time referenced in the report, ether was trading above $1,300, meaning the target pointed to nearly 700% upside from prevailing levels.

The call stands out not only because of the magnitude of the projected move, but also because it frames ether as one of the most compelling risk-reward opportunities in the digital asset market. Grider’s thesis is built on two major pillars: the rapid rise of decentralized finance and Ethereum’s long-term network upgrade path.

DeFi Remains Central to the Ethereum Investment Thesis

According to Grider, Ethereum’s position as the dominant infrastructure layer for decentralized finance (DeFi) gives it a structural advantage. A large share of DeFi applications has been built on the Ethereum blockchain, and the sector saw substantial growth through 2020. That expansion has helped strengthen the argument that ether is more than just a speculative token and increasingly acts as the economic fuel for a broader blockchain-based financial ecosystem.

This relationship matters because DeFi growth can feed directly into Ethereum’s network activity, usage, and strategic relevance. As more lending, trading, and other financial applications operate on Ethereum, the chain’s role as a foundational settlement layer becomes more visible to both crypto-native participants and traditional investors evaluating the sector.

Network Upgrades Support the Long-Term Valuation Case

Grider also tied his bullish outlook to Ethereum’s ongoing upgrade process. The report said the multi-part upgrade is aimed at transforming Ethereum into a blockchain capable of supporting an entire financial system at scale. If fully completed as envisioned, the network could potentially handle transaction volumes comparable to major payment networks such as Visa and Mastercard.

That scalability narrative is important because it addresses one of the core questions surrounding Ethereum’s future: whether it can evolve from a leading smart contract platform into infrastructure with mainstream financial throughput. In Grider’s view, that evolution materially strengthens the long-term value proposition for ether.

He was quoted as saying that “Ether is the best risk/reward investment play in crypto,” while also suggesting that blockchain computing may eventually become a significant part of the future of cloud infrastructure. The statement places Ethereum not just in the context of token speculation, but in the broader trend of decentralized computing and programmable financial systems.

Price Momentum Adds to Market Confidence

The bullish outlook came as ether surged 12% to a record high near $1,440 on Tuesday, supported by strong buying pressure. The breakout reinforced market enthusiasm around Ethereum and came during a period when investors were increasingly paying attention to assets beyond bitcoin.

Fresh highs often serve as psychological validation for bullish narratives, especially when they coincide with visible ecosystem growth. In Ethereum’s case, price strength, DeFi expansion, and the roadmap toward Ethereum 2.0 were all converging into a single market story: that the network could become one of the most important layers in the digital asset economy.

Other Industry Voices Also See Strong Fundamentals

Luis Cuende, cofounder of the decentralized autonomous organization Aragon, echoed the broader constructive view on Ethereum, though with a more measured price outlook. He argued that in the context of the Web 3.0 vision, institutional investors may understand that while bitcoin remains central as a form of sovereign digital currency, the significance of a programmable economy represented by Ethereum should not be underestimated.

Cuende said Ethereum’s fundamentals remain robust, adding that the protocol has already shown signs of early product-market fit and is generating revenue. In his assessment, ether is maturing as an asset, a point that supports the idea that investor interest in ETH is increasingly tied to underlying network utility rather than solely market sentiment.

Still, Cuende’s price expectations were more conservative than Fundstrat’s. He said ether could trade in a range between $2,500 and $7,500. Even so, that range still implied substantial upside from the levels referenced in the report.

Execution Risk and Competition Remain Key Variables

Despite the bullish backdrop, the report did not ignore the risks. One of the biggest concerns is the possibility of delays in Ethereum’s network upgrade. Because so much of the long-term valuation case depends on successful execution, any slowdown in development or implementation could weaken market confidence.

Another risk is a broader downturn in the crypto market. Even strong network fundamentals do not fully insulate digital assets from macro sentiment, volatility, or shifts in investor appetite. A bearish turn across crypto could weigh on ether regardless of Ethereum’s ecosystem progress.

Cuende also pointed to rising competition. He said that until ETH 2.0 is fully complete, rival smart contract networks such as Polkadot, Cosmos, and NEAR are well-positioned to capture meaningful market share. That view highlights an increasingly important aspect of the Ethereum story: while it remains the leading platform in many areas, it is no longer the only credible contender in programmable blockchain infrastructure.

A Bullish Thesis Grounded in Utility

What makes the Fundstrat call notable is that it is rooted in utility, adoption, and infrastructure development rather than momentum alone. The thesis argues that Ethereum’s price potential comes from its role in powering a growing financial and computational ecosystem, not merely from speculative enthusiasm.

Whether ether can ultimately reach $10,500 will depend on multiple factors, including the continued expansion of DeFi, successful execution of Ethereum’s upgrade roadmap, and the network’s ability to defend its leadership against fast-moving competitors. For now, however, the report reflects a broader market belief that Ethereum’s combination of developer activity, real-world usage, and platform ambition gives it one of the strongest long-term narratives in crypto.
