Core Driver: Collapse of Strategy's Financing Model
Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, stated that the core reason for Bitcoin's recent decline is a 'collapse in confidence triggered by Strategy.' He noted that the issue extends beyond Bitcoin's price itself, as concerns over Strategy's financing model are spreading. As the largest publicly held corporate Bitcoin holder, Strategy's stock (STRC) and preferred securities have become key risk indicators for traders. The company's long-standing 'premium equity issuance to buy more Bitcoin' flywheel has cracked, with STRC trading below the value of its Bitcoin holdings at times. Novogratz said STRC should be trading near $100, but instead remains weak. Strategy's annual dividend obligations have risen to approximately $1.2 billion, while its cash reserve coverage has shrunk to only about 14 months.
Macro and Technical Headwinds
On the macro front, Novogratz summarized the market logic as 'strong dollar means weak Bitcoin.' Hawkish central bank signals and a strengthening dollar are suppressing demand for risk assets. Technically, Bitcoin's $59,000–$60,000 range has become a key defense line. A breakdown below that range could open the door to a decline toward $45,000. This zone concentrates significant long positions and stop-loss orders, making a decisive move below it capable of triggering cascading liquidations.
Market Outlook: A 50/50 Gamble
Novogratz acknowledged the complexity of the current situation, placing the probability of a rebound versus a deep correction at roughly 50/50. ETF outflows, weak liquidity, and cautious positioning in the options market reinforce a fragile sentiment. Today, Strategy's balance sheet health, STRC price performance, and cash position have evolved beyond company-specific issues into a broader market confidence signal for Bitcoin. Investors are closely watching these metrics to determine whether Bitcoin can hold its current defense line or if a new downtrend is imminent.
