Gate Head of Global Partnerships Jason Fung spoke at the GATE ZONE fireside session on Aug. 21 in the Summer Bay area of Coinfest Asia, outlining what he sees as the next phase of competition in onchain prediction markets. His remarks focused on market structure, user-created markets, the role of builder ecosystems, and where future growth could come from. Fung said competition in prediction markets is moving beyond liquidity and trading volume alone. In his view, the next key battleground will be lowering the barriers to creating markets, expanding the range of market types, and bringing more users into the process of building markets themselves. He linked that shift to Gate DexBuilder’s recently launched event contract Builder, describing user-led market creation as an important step toward a more open model. He added that easier market creation and listing could let users quickly launch markets around trending events while also testing niche themes and unmet demand. Fung also said prediction markets still have substantial untapped room to grow, with potential applications extending across politics, sports, crypto, AI, and entertainment. As more developers and founders enter the sector, he said builder ecosystems, market diversity, and user experience will become major growth drivers.

At a GATE ZONE fireside session held on Aug. 21 in the Summer Bay area of Coinfest Asia, Gate Head of Global Partnerships Jason Fung shared his view on what he called the biggest market opportunity in prediction markets. His talk covered the competitive structure of the sector, user-created markets, builder ecosystems, and future openings for growth.

Fung said that as onchain prediction markets continue to develop, competition will no longer center only on liquidity and trading volume. He said the next stage will depend on how well platforms can lower the barriers to market creation, expand the types of markets available, and bring more users into the process of building markets.

User-created markets and a more open model

Speaking about Gate DexBuilder’s recently launched event contract Builder, Fung said giving users the ability to create markets on their own is an important step toward making prediction markets more open.

By lowering the threshold for creating and listing event-driven markets, users can quickly build markets around trending topics while also exploring narrower themes and potential demand that may not yet be fully served. He said that shift could move prediction markets away from a product form led by a small number of platforms and toward a more open market ecosystem.

Room for expansion across multiple sectors

Fung said prediction markets still contain a large number of opportunities that have not yet been fully explored. He said their application scope could continue to extend beyond current hot areas including politics, sports, crypto, AI, and entertainment.

He added that as more developers and entrepreneurs enter the sector, builder ecosystems, market diversity, and user experience will become major forces shaping industry growth. In his view, onchain event markets could also expand beyond early users and reach a broader user base over time.
