According to Gate Ventures' latest weekly report, global market volatility rose sharply last week after Middle East geopolitical tensions intensified and U.S. core inflation came in above expectations, putting broad pressure on risk assets.
In commodities, Brent crude and WTI crude jumped 8.33% and 9.36%, returning above $100 per barrel. U.S. core CPI for August rose 0.29% month over month, above expectations, helping drive the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield up to 4.97%. The market-implied probability of a September rate hike also climbed to about 86%. Spot gold fell 1.82% to $4,349.42 per ounce.
Stocks and crypto both moved lower
U.S. equities closed lower across the major indexes. The S&P 500 fell 0.80%, the Nasdaq lost 0.66%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1.57%.
Crypto markets followed the same direction. BTC fell 4.4%, while ETH slipped 1.5%. On fund flows, spot BTC ETFs recorded net outflows of $462.7 million, while ETH ETFs posted net inflows of $197.1 million. The fear index declined from 71 to 57, indicating cooler market sentiment.
Industry and regulatory developments
Gate Ventures said India has launched a tokenized corporate bond pilot worth $107 million, a move tied to institutional RWA tokenization development. Gemini, meanwhile, received a Major Payment Institution, or MPI, license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, expanding its compliant business footprint in the Asia-Pacific region.
In the Philippines, the central bank is planning to suspend new payment system operator registrations for 12 months as it tightens oversight of payment activities related to VASPs.
Funding activity
On financing, the report said nine deals were completed last week, with disclosed funding totaling $158.4 million, down 88% from the previous period.
Gate Ventures said energy prices and inflation expectations remain the core short-term variables shaping market direction, while interest in tokenized assets and institutional crypto infrastructure continues.
