Crypto exchange Gemini announced on August 14, 2025, the launch of Gemini Wallet, a self-custody smart wallet designed to simplify onchain interactions for both retail users and developers. The wallet is accompanied by the Gemini Onchain Dashboard, a browser-based hub that provides a transparent view of holdings, decentralized applications (dapps), and DeFi vaults.

Key Features: Passkey Login, Gas-Free Transactions, and Multi-Chain Support

Gemini Wallet eliminates the need for separate app downloads or managing seed phrases. Instead, it leverages passkey technology, allowing users to onboard and authenticate using biometrics or device PINs with a single tap. The wallet supports both embedded and portable use cases—meaning it can be integrated directly into dapps via an SDK or used as a standalone self-custody wallet across mobile and desktop platforms.

To lower entry barriers, Gemini has partnered with major Layer 2 networks including Arbitrum, Polygon, Optimism, and Base to sponsor gas fees during the initial rollout. This enables users to perform transactions and interact with DeFi without paying network fees. Early adopters also receive a free ENS subdomain and gain access to the onchain dashboard at onchain.gemini.com.

Ecosystem Integrations: Security, Cross-Chain Swaps, and DeFi Yields

The wallet features a robust ecosystem of partners to enhance user experience and safety. Blockaid provides security infrastructure to protect against scams and malicious transactions. WalletConnect ensures compatibility with thousands of dapps. Bungee enables efficient cross-chain token swaps, and Morpho allows users to deposit assets into curated DeFi vaults with real-time access and withdrawal. These integrations eliminate the need to juggle multiple tools, offering a streamlined experience from a single interface.

Eric Kuhn, Head of Onchain at Gemini, stated: “Whether you’re a retail investor looking for a secure, portable gateway to Web3, or a developer seeking an SDK kit to embed the wallet directly into your dapp, the Gemini Wallet brings flexibility, ease of use, and powerful security to onchain access.”

Future Roadmap: Seamless Gemini Exchange Connectivity

Gemini plans to integrate full connectivity with the Gemini exchange later this year, allowing users to transfer funds seamlessly between the exchange and their self-custody wallet. This move aims to bridge the gap between centralized finance (CeFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi), accelerating crypto adoption among mainstream users who value both security and convenience.

The launch of Gemini Wallet marks a significant step for the exchange in the self-custody space. Amid growing demand for asset control and regulatory scrutiny, Gemini’s combination of passkey security, gas sponsorship, and deep DeFi integration positions it as a competitor to existing wallets like MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet, targeting the next wave of Web3 users.
