Genesis Global Trading, an institutional over-the-counter digital asset firm, has announced the launch of Genesis Capital, a new subsidiary focused on fixed-term cryptocurrency lending for institutional clients. The service is designed for professional market participants seeking to borrow digital assets for market-making, spot shorting, or working capital needs tied to crypto-focused business activity.
Large-ticket borrowing for professional investors
According to the company, Genesis Capital will support borrowing in a broad range of digital assets, including bitcoin, ether, ether classic, litecoin, ripple, bitcoin cash, and zcash. Loan sizes begin at $100,000, signaling a clear focus on large institutional borrowers rather than retail traders.
Genesis said it believes the timing is favorable for an institution-oriented lending platform because greater access to borrowed crypto can improve market liquidity, encourage wider participation from financial firms, and expand the working capital available to companies building in the digital asset sector. Given Genesis Trading’s existing role as an institutional market maker, the firm expects demand from hedge funds, spot and derivatives brokerages, and other professional counterparties.
Terms range from two weeks to six months
The company’s submission page indicates that borrowers can request between $100,000 and more than $5 million worth of digital currencies. Loan durations range from two weeks to six months. Genesis also states that it accepts USD collateral, and once onboarding is completed, borrowed digital assets are delivered directly to the client’s wallet.
Genesis added that it operates as a regulated company and follows Federal MSB and FinCEN requirements. It also plans to integrate the lending business with its OTC trading infrastructure. One use case highlighted by the firm is facilitating large-block short-sale positions. After onboarding, borrowers will be able to access Genesis Trading’s OTC platform and initiate short strategies using various cryptocurrencies.
The launch of Genesis Capital reflects a broader shift in the digital asset market toward more developed financing and liquidity tools. For institutions, access to large, fixed-term, compliance-oriented crypto loans could become an increasingly important part of professional trading and capital management.
