On June 4, global financial markets displayed a differentiated picture. According to the latest data from Gate, international precious metals and cryptocurrency volatility indices surged in tandem. Gold advanced to $4,509.51 per ounce, a daily gain of 1.69%, while silver rose 2.70% to $74.655 per ounce. Meanwhile, implied volatility in the crypto market picked up markedly: the BTC Volatility Index (BVIX) climbed 11.03% to 48.30, and the ETH Volatility Index (EVIX) jumped 11.69% to 61.99.
Precious Metals and Crypto Volatility Surge
Gold and silver extended their upward momentum, lifting the entire precious metals complex. In crypto derivatives, both BVIX and EVIX posted daily increases exceeding 11%, signaling a significant repricing of short-term volatility for BTC and ETH in the options market. These indices track expected volatility of major crypto assets; a sharp intraday rise often reflects higher hedging demand amid risk-off sentiment or approaching key technical levels, as traders bet on increased price swings.
Mixed Signals Across Traditional Markets
In forex markets, the US dollar weakened marginally. USD/CNH slipped 0.08% to 6.77423, and USD/JPY fell 0.12% to 159.879. Global equity indices broadly advanced: the Euro Stoxx 50 (EUSTX50) gained 0.62% to 6,076.07, the UK FTSE 100 (UK100) added 0.23% to 10,328.86, and the German DAX40 (GER40) moved 0.89% higher to 24,941.56. In contrast, crude oil suffered notable declines. WTI crude dropped 3.45% to $95.20 per barrel, and Brent crude fell 2.86% to $97.88 per barrel, weighing on energy-linked assets.
