GoMining has launched GoBTC Pay, a Bitcoin payment protocol aimed at making everyday spending possible on Bitcoin’s base layer. The company says the system enables native instant payments in BTC, with no fee for consumers and a 0.2% acquiring fee for merchants, well below the 1.5% to 3.5% card processing range commonly seen in the U.S.
Dedicated mining pool is central to the settlement model
The protocol relies on GoMining’s own mining infrastructure to confirm transactions. The company has created a dedicated mining pool for GoBTC Pay and says it is targeting 12-hour final on-chain settlement by the end of 2026. That puts block production and payment confirmation under the same corporate umbrella rather than leaving confirmation to third-party mining pools.
GoBTC Pay uses a 2-of-3 multisignature setup shared by the user, GoMining, and a regulated third-party custodian. The design keeps the payment flow tied to Bitcoin’s core layer while adding an operational structure for transaction handling and settlement.
Wallet providers can plug into the network
GoMining describes GoBTC Pay as open infrastructure. It runs the reference implementation, but says any wallet provider can integrate the protocol, whether the product is hardware-based, software-based, or custodial. The launch material specifically mentions names such as Ledger, Trust Wallet, and MetaMask as examples of wallets that could support the system.
For merchants, the product includes two routes: receiving BTC directly into their own wallet or using GoMining’s custodial merchant service. The custodial option includes yield on BTC balances during the settlement window and an off-ramp into fiat. GoMining also says the rollout will include a dedicated PoS terminal, a web merchant dashboard, a developer SDK, and plugins for Shopify and WooCommerce in the coming months.
Fee flow is split between miners and wallets
The 0.2% merchant fee is designed to circulate inside the network. According to GoMining, half goes to miners confirming transactions and half goes to the wallet provider that initiated the payment. The company says it keeps none of that fee on third-party transactions, framing the structure as an incentive for wallet integrations.
This ties into GoMining’s existing “digital miners” business, where users hold tokenized hashrate through the company’s app. A share of GoBTC Pay transaction fees is directed back to those miners as additional BTC yield. In the model described by the company, consumers spend BTC, merchants receive BTC, miners collect part of the payment fee, and GoMining’s pool processes the transaction flow.
Launch targets Bitcoin’s long-standing retail payment gap
GoMining places the product launch against Bitcoin’s broader adoption curve. Its materials say Bitcoin’s market capitalization is above $1.5 trillion, more than 150 public companies hold BTC on their balance sheets, spot Bitcoin ETFs now manage about $100 billion, and the U.S. government holds roughly 328,000 BTC. Yet retail payments remain a weak point for the asset.
The company also points to the Lightning Network, introduced in 2018, saying it took seven years to reach $1 billion in monthly volume and that its average transaction size of $223 points more to exchange-related flows than grocery-style purchases. In the U.S., about 22% of adults own Bitcoin, but only 2,300 businesses accept Bitcoin directly.
CEO Mark Zalan said the first line of the Bitcoin whitepaper describes a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, and argued that Bitcoin was built to function as money rather than only as an asset. He said GoMining’s existing user base in the millions and data centers across three continents give the company a position to push native Bitcoin payments into wider use.
Product rollout comes with broader U.S. expansion
The GoBTC Pay launch arrives as GoMining expands in the United States. The company says it is building combined data centers for Bitcoin mining and AI workloads, with a target of securing 1 GW of compute capacity in 2026. It also presented a live demo of GoBTC Pay at Consensus Miami 2026, held from May 5 to May 7 at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
GoMining says it serves 5 million users globally and ranks among the top 10 Bitcoin miners by hashrate worldwide. With GoBTC Pay, the company is extending that mining and tokenized hashrate ecosystem into payments, placing transaction processing much closer to the core of its business.
