Grayscale filed its fourth amended S-1 for the Grayscale Hyperliquid ETF, and the number that stands out is 2 million HYPE tokens — valued at roughly $113 million at current prices — contributed by Hyper Holdings Global LP as seed capital. That is real money already committed before the ETF opens.
Four Amendments Down, HYPG Launch in Sight
Bloomberg ETF analysts note that four amendments indicate the SEC review has gone deep. The fund's full name now reads Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF, ticker HYPG, a hint at potential staking features. Grayscale swapped custodians mid-process, moving from Coinbase to Anchorage Digital. Management fees remain undisclosed, but analysts expect them to appear at final approval.
This amendment includes Form 8-A elements — a filing type tied to exchange registration — meaning Grayscale is preparing for Nasdaq listing. Trading could start days to weeks after SEC clearance.
Seed Capital Shifts HYPE Supply Dynamics
HYPE trades around $60 to $62.50, with a market cap of $15.8 billion and a circulating supply of roughly 253-254 million tokens. Daily volume regularly exceeds $900 million to $1 billion. The 2 million tokens committed as seed capital lock up institutional holdings before any retail ETF dollar flows in, reducing immediate sell pressure by pulling supply off the market into a structured product.
Combined with Hyperliquid's on-chain perpetual volume and its fee buyback mechanism — which recycles hundreds of millions back into the protocol — HYPE's fundamentals extend beyond ETF hype. Grayscale manages over $35 billion in crypto products; its entry brings brokerage account access for millions of traditional investors who never touch a crypto wallet. That is a new class of buyer entering a token with already strong on-chain demand.
HYPG vs Competitors: Staking as a Differentiator
HYPG is not first. Bitwise's BHYP ETF is already live, and 21Shares has its own HYPE product further along. Early ETFs typically capture the largest share of inflows before the market fragments. Grayscale carries brand weight — institutional allocators who used its Bitcoin Trust-era products trust the name. HYPG under that umbrella could attract a different category of inflow.
The staking angle sets HYPG apart. If Grayscale activates staking rewards inside the ETF structure post-launch (as the renamed fund signals), holders will earn yield on top of price exposure. No spot Bitcoin ETF currently offers this.
