xAI’s Grok Bot said it can now purchase goods online directly for users. After connecting Stripe’s Link payment service, users can hand a shopping task to Grok Bot, which can find the product and then move ahead with the transaction.
The move takes Grok Bot beyond product search, comparison, and recommendations and into Agentic Commerce. The feature is initially available to users in the United States, and Grok Bot said a mobile version will roll out later.
User approval is required for every payment
Security and authorization are the central issues when an AI system is allowed to make payments. Grok Bot’s setup does not hand a user’s primary credit card details directly to the AI.
According to the official description, every time Grok Bot is ready to make a purchase, it must first send a payment request to the user, who has to approve each charge. Only after that approval does Grok Bot receive a secure single-use card, a virtual card number meant for that one transaction.
Stripe says bots can buy from any business on the internet
Stripe later confirmed the partnership. Stripe said users can now use its Link service to effectively give Grok Bot a card so the bot can complete purchases online.
Stripe stated: "Bots can now buy from any business on the internet." In practice, that means merchants do not need to build a dedicated checkout interface specifically for Grok Bot.
That marks a different approach from some earlier Agent Commerce models. Instead of asking the entire e-commerce sector to rebuild around a separate AI-only payment system, this model tries to place AI agents directly into existing payment networks.
