HashKey On-Chain, part of HashKey Group, said it has entered a partnership with TradeGo to build a digital asset financing platform for cross-border trade. The project will center on the digitization and on-chain representation of trade documents such as electronic bills of lading, with the stated goal of testing real-world asset, or RWA, use cases in trade finance. Under the arrangement, HashKey Issuance Platform, or HIP, will serve as the underlying digital asset infrastructure. It will map trade documents including electronic bills of lading into on-chain digital certificates and use smart contracts for asset-status tracking and workflow automation. TradeGo will handle core business functions tied to electronic bills of lading, including issuance, circulation, review, authenticity checks on trade assets, enterprise onboarding, and risk control. The two companies framed the partnership around long-standing pain points in trade finance, where document review, title confirmation, and financing approval often involve multiple institutions and lengthy processing times. They said the model is intended to improve the circulation efficiency of trade assets, cut verification costs, and make financing more accessible, particularly for firms that have genuine trade backgrounds and goods in transit but face delays in obtaining funding.

HashKey On-Chain, a unit of HashKey Group, said it has partnered with TradeGo to build a digital asset financing platform aimed at cross-border trade. The two sides plan to use the digitization and on-chain representation of trade documents, including electronic bills of lading, to explore real-world asset (RWA) applications in trade finance and improve both asset circulation efficiency and financing access.

Partnership targets trade finance workflows

According to the announcement, cross-border trade finance has long relied on documents such as bills of lading as key proof of title and performance. In the traditional model, document review, cargo title confirmation, and financing approval usually require coordination across multiple institutions. That process can be complex and time-consuming, raising operating costs and slowing companies’ capital turnover.

The companies said the burden is particularly visible for small and medium-sized trading firms. Even when those firms have genuine trade backgrounds and goods in transit, they may still struggle to obtain financing in time because document verification is inefficient and title information is not transparent enough.

HIP to provide infrastructure, TradeGo to run core operating steps

As part of the cooperation, HashKey Issuance Platform (HIP) will act as the underlying digital asset infrastructure. HIP will map trade documents such as electronic bills of lading into on-chain digital certificates and use smart contracts to track asset status and automate business processes, creating a trusted data base for trade finance.

TradeGo will be responsible for the issuance, circulation, and review of electronic bills of lading, as well as authenticity verification for trade assets, enterprise onboarding, and risk control.

Electronic bills of lading positioned as digital carriers of trade assets

The companies described electronic bills of lading as important legal instruments representing property rights in international trade and as a key digital carrier for real-world assets. Through what they called trusted digital financial infrastructure, the partnership aims to create a verifiable, traceable, and manageable digital expression of real trade assets, allowing documents such as electronic bills of lading to function as digital assets that can support trade financing.

They said the approach could improve lifecycle management of trade assets, lower verification costs for businesses, and raise financing efficiency. The announcement also said the project is meant to offer a repeatable practical path for applying RWA structures in trade finance.

Executive comments

Li Chen, CEO of HashKey On-Chain BG, said, “Trade finance is an important application scenario for digital asset technology serving the real economy. At present, Hong Kong is actively promoting the digitization of trade finance and exploring the use of trusted trade and logistics data to improve financing efficiency and the availability of financing for small and medium-sized enterprises. Our cooperation with TradeGo is an active step in that direction. HashKey On-Chain hopes to rely on institution-grade digital asset infrastructure to build trusted and verifiable digital expressions of real trade assets, promote closer integration among trade data, digital assets, and financial services, and provide infrastructure support for Hong Kong’s trade finance digitization and digital asset ecosystem development.”

Yu Yingjiao, CEO of TradeGo, said, “Cross-border trade digitization is not only about converting paper documents into electronic form. More importantly, it is about building a trusted and verifiable data foundation. Our cooperation with HashKey will further increase the application value of digitized trade documents such as electronic bills of lading in trade finance, help financial institutions identify real trade assets more efficiently, and help trading companies improve financing efficiency and reduce communication and review costs, providing a more efficient and trusted solution for the development of cross-border trade digitization.”
