On-chain analyst Specter flagged suspicious activity on the Hedera network, reporting an attacker bridged stolen assets to Ethereum through LayerZero. The tracked loss climbed from roughly $3.7 million to over $5 million within hours. One flagged address now holds close to 2,280 ETH and 15.5 WBTC, initially funded via Tornado Cash. Hedera has not issued an official statement; limited visibility on its own explorer makes independent verification difficult.

Exploit Mechanics and Market Pressure

The attacker is converting stolen WBTC into ETH. Cross-chain bridges remain one of the most exploited pieces of crypto infrastructure, and each incident puts fresh pressure on protocols to lock down security before funds become unrecoverable. For Ethereum holders, large inbound swaps from hack proceeds can create short-term sell pressure on WBTC pairs — a factor active traders may want to monitor in the coming sessions.

Ethereum currently trades at $1,796.84, up 0.38% in 24 hours. Its market cap stands at $216.84 billion, while 24-hour volume dropped 11.32% to $7.48 billion. Circulating supply is 120.68 million ETH.

Vitalik Buterin Reopens AI Timeline Debate

In a public post, Vitalik Buterin questioned whether AI will follow a normal technological curve or accelerate into a superintelligence-level shift between 2030 and 2040. He pushed back against concentration of AI infrastructure among a handful of corporations, arguing such centralization would raise alarms in any other technology sector. Buterin reiterated support for d/acc (decentralized defense), an approach built on open-source tools, cryptography, secure hardware, and biodefense. He proposed that society pre-agree on triggers — such as mass unemployment or autonomous-weapons risks — that would justify slowing AI development.

Spot Ethereum ETFs Snap Losing Streak

Spot Ethereum ETFs may be close to ending a prolonged outflow run. Despite a $52 million outflow on July 9, the group still posted a $66 million net positive week as of July 11. July 10 brought an $18.43 million net inflow, led by BlackRock's ETHA fund. Total net assets across the cohort now sit near $9.59 billion. If outflows on July 10 remain below that cushion, it would mark the first positive week since early May.

Market watchers are tracking ETF flows alongside price action, as institutional appetite has increasingly shifted ETH's near-term trajectory. Exploit-related volatility could compound that effect in the days ahead.
