Nous Research co-founder Teknium said Hermes could be turned into a DIY game development studio built around multiple specialized agents. The idea, first outlined with input from developer Luke, is to split work across agents handling game logic, character and scene assets, music and sound, and even playtesting. A dedicated testing agent would report bugs and flag parts of a game that are not fun. Teknium later listed the missing pieces needed to support that vision: 3D model generation, animation, sound effects, and connections to the Unity and Godot game engines. He said those features would be added through plugins rather than changes to Hermes itself. Luke also suggested NPC voice acting, 2D pixel assets, and one-click export for web and mobile games. Hermes already supports coding, image generation, and coordination between sub-agents. The project has also released a Blender plugin and supports controlling the Unreal Engine editor through MCP. Music and sound generation skills are already available as optional capabilities. The concept is not entirely new. The open-source Claude Code Game Studios project has been experimenting since February this year with multiple specialized agents for game planning, development, and testing, and community developers later adapted that approach into a Hermes version.

Nous Research co-founder Teknium said he wants to turn Hermes into a DIY game development studio powered by multiple agents working across the production pipeline.

Developer Luke proposed splitting the work among specialized sub-agents: one for game logic, one for character and scene assets, one for music and sound, and a separate agent to play the game, file bug reports, and identify sections that are not fun.

What Hermes still needs

Teknium later outlined the capabilities that still need to be added, including 3D model generation, animation, sound effects, and links to the Unity and Godot game engines. He said all of those functions would be delivered through plugins, with no changes to the Hermes core.

Luke also suggested adding NPC voice acting, 2D pixel art assets, and one-click export for web and mobile games.

Existing tools and earlier experiments

Hermes already has coding, image generation, and sub-agent coordination features. The team has previously released a Blender plugin and added support for controlling the Unreal Engine editor through MCP. Music and sound generation are also available as optional skills.

The broader idea has appeared before. The open-source Claude Code Game Studios project has been trying since February this year to use multiple specialized agents for game planning, development, and testing. Community developers later adapted that setup into a Hermes version.
