Odaily reported that Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan said in a blog post that the Hong Kong SAR government will launch a public consultation on the city’s first five-year plan next week on June 15. The consultation will last for two months. According to Chan, the plan is intended to strengthen economic development momentum, promote better use of technology, and support a more inclusive society in which residents can access more quality job opportunities and a better life.

Chan wrote that “AI+” and “Finance+” are two strategic directions for deeper discussion. On artificial intelligence, he said AI is no longer only part of the innovation and technology industry itself, but also plays a key role in improving the competitiveness of many sectors. In finance, AI can strengthen data analysis, risk management, and customer service.

On “Finance+,” Chan said the concept means making good use of Hong Kong’s full-chain fundraising and financing functions. This includes building a more complete patient capital system to provide development momentum for frontier technology companies. The two-month consultation will collect views around Hong Kong’s five-year development planning, with attention on technology applications, financial functions, and the goal of broader social inclusion.
