In one case, a woman in her 60s was lured into a cryptocurrency investment scam and transferred money to a fake investment website more than 20 times over six months, for a total of about HK$19 million. The account on the site at one point showed a balance of more than HK$42 million. She was later told to deposit another HK$7 million-plus to unfreeze the funds. After transferring about HK$1.2 million more, she became suspicious and reported the case to police. Her final loss exceeded HK$21 million.
