Pick a 15-man squad within £100.0m, max 3 per club. Set your XI and captain each Gameweek, and in 2026/27 each chip is available twice.

Fantasy Premier League starts with a 15-player squad built on a £100.0m budget, with no more than 3 players from any one club. For each Gameweek, you choose a starting XI and a captain, and the captain's points are doubled.

Build the squad first

Your squad has fixed position slots, so squad building is about fitting players into a set structure as well as staying inside the budget. The 15 are 11 starters and 4 substitutes, and the club limit applies to all of them.

PositionIn the squadIn the starting XI
Goalkeepers21
Defenders53 to 5
Midfielders52 to 5
Forwards31 to 3

The total budget at the start is £100.0m. You can spread that money however you like across the squad, but you cannot go beyond 3 players from the same Premier League club.

Set your lineup and score points each Gameweek

Before every Gameweek deadline, you must lock in your starters. The deadline comes 90 minutes before the first kick-off of that Gameweek; in 2026/27, the opening deadline was 18:30 UK time on 21 August 2026.

Your XI must include 1 goalkeeper, at least 3 defenders, at least 2 midfielders and at least 1 forward. That means formation changes are allowed from week to week as long as the lineup stays within those limits.

Points come from goals, assists, saves and clean sheets, with bonus points added for the top performers in the Bonus Points System. Your captain scores double; if the captain does not play, the vice-captain gets the double instead. If a starter does not appear, the first eligible player on the bench is substituted in.

Transfers and price changes

You get 1 free transfer every Gameweek, and you can save them up to a maximum of 5. Any transfer above your free allowance costs 4 points.

Until the first deadline, unlimited transfers are free. Player prices change during the season, and when you sell a player after a rise, you keep only half of the profit, rounded down to the nearest £0.1m.

Chips and league formats in 2026/27

In 2026/27, each chip is available twice, for 8 chips in total across the season. You can use only 1 chip in a Gameweek, and neither the Wildcard nor the Free Hit can be played in Gameweek 1.

WildcardAll transfers in the Gameweek are freeOnce in Gameweeks 2-19, once in 20-38
Free HitUnlimited free transfers for 1 Gameweek; the squad then revertsOnce in Gameweeks 2-19, once in 20-38
Triple CaptainCaptain's points are tripled instead of doubledOnce in Gameweeks 1-19, once in 20-38
Bench BoostPoints from the substitutes count tooOnce in Gameweeks 1-19, once in 20-38

You can also play in leagues beyond the overall ranking. Managers may join up to 30 private leagues, either classic scoring or head-to-head; in head-to-head, a win gives 3 points and a draw gives 1. Public leagues are capped at 5, with 20 teams in each league.

There are also new 2026/27 features: live mini-league updates, projected bonus points added after 20 minutes of each match, a Price Change Predictor, and a later lockdown. Scores become final at 09:00 UK time on the day after the last match of the Gameweek.

FAQ

How does Fantasy Premier League work overall?

You build a squad inside the budget and squad rules, then manage it each Gameweek by setting your XI, choosing a captain, making transfers and deciding on chip use. Player actions on the pitch create points, and the game applies captain doubling, bench substitutions and any chip effect to your total.

How many players can you pick from one club?

The limit is 3 players from any single Premier League club. That cap covers your whole squad, not just the starting XI.

How many free transfers do you get in FPL?

You receive 1 free transfer per Gameweek and can carry free transfers up to 5. If you go beyond that allowance in the same Gameweek, each extra move costs 4 points.

How many chips are there in FPL in 2026/27?

There are 8 in total because Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost each appear twice. One set covers Gameweeks 1-19 and the other Gameweeks 20-38; the Wildcard and Free Hit cannot be played in Gameweek 1.

Can you change formation in Fantasy Premier League?

Yes, formation can change from one Gameweek to the next. The only requirement is that your starting XI still fits the position rules: 1 goalkeeper, 3 to 5 defenders, 2 to 5 midfielders and 1 to 3 forwards.
