Hyperliquid Expands Into Prediction Markets

Hyperliquid has introduced a new fee model for Outcome Tokens, a move that marks an important step toward its eventual mainnet rollout and underscores its ambitions in the prediction market sector. The launch puts the platform in more direct competition with established players such as Polymarket and Kalshi. Under the new structure, users pay no fee when opening positions, with charges applied only when positions are closed or contracts are settled.

The platform is also offering additional incentives for traders who use its designated aligned quote token. Those users receive a 20% reduction in taker fees and a 50% increase in maker rebates. The structure appears designed to lower entry friction for directional traders while also encouraging liquidity provision through stronger maker incentives.

HIP-4 Upgrade Adds Binary Contracts on Real-World Events

The fee launch coincides with the HIP-4 upgrade, which enables trading in binary contracts tied to real-world events alongside Hyperliquid’s existing perpetual and spot offerings. This broadens the platform’s market scope beyond its crypto-native base and gives users access to event-driven products within the same ecosystem.

The timing is notable given the rapid growth of the prediction market industry. According to the source material, trading volume in the sector rose by more than 300% year over year in 2025, reaching $63.5 billion. With that backdrop, Hyperliquid’s latest rollout appears aimed at capturing part of a fast-expanding market while differentiating on pricing and incentives.

Competitive Pressure Builds Across Platforms

The announcement also comes shortly after Polymarket said it plans to introduce perpetual trading, highlighting how leading platforms are increasingly moving into each other’s core segments. As Polymarket expands beyond prediction contracts and Hyperliquid moves deeper into event markets, competitive lines in the sector are becoming less distinct.

For now, Hyperliquid’s Outcome Tokens remain in the testnet phase, and the project has not yet disclosed a mainnet launch date. Even so, the combination of zero open-position fees, quote-token incentives, and new binary contract support signals a serious push to establish a foothold in the growing prediction market landscape.
