The International Monetary Fund has confirmed that El Salvador's bitcoin accumulation since June 2025 has not used public funds, instead reflecting private donations. In November 2025 the country disclosed a purchase of 1,090 BTC (worth about $100 million), bringing its total holdings to 7,474 BTC. The IMF also noted that El Salvador is improving wallet transparency and strengthening governance and risk management for public-sector crypto holdings.
