According to a report cited by Odaily and attributed to China Central Television, a source close to Iran’s negotiating team said on local time Aug. 25 that Tehran wants Pakistan to clearly convey its position and negotiating terms on the Strait of Hormuz to the United States. The source said Iran had already laid out that position during a meeting on Aug. 24 with visiting Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir. The conditions raised by Iran include a request that the U.S. abide by the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and implement the relevant provisions. The source added that Article 5 covers arrangements related to Iran’s management of the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan is now seeking to pass those conditions on to Washington, according to the same source.
