Strike CEO Jack Mallers said on Bitcoin Magazine’s first television program that Bitcoin and artificial intelligence can help people reclaim time and return their energy to creative work. He described money as an abstraction of human time and energy, arguing that bad money erodes both by forcing people to work longer to afford homes, vacations, or artistic pursuits, while good money gives that time back. Mallers said Bitcoin and AI could free people from what he called the "drudgery" of bad money. He also cited the Wright brothers, saying the airplane was invented while the United States was on a gold standard. His comments came as Bitcoin posted one of its strongest stretches in years, rising about 25% in August and closing the month near $78,000. The report also linked the rally to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s expanded long-bond buybacks, lower yields, billions of dollars in short liquidations, a weaker dollar, and U.S. debt reaching $40 trillion. Mallers added that current U.S. debt levels are unsustainable.

Strike CEO Jack Mallers said on Bitcoin Magazine’s first television program that Bitcoin and artificial intelligence can help humans reclaim time and put it back into creation.

Mallers described money as an abstraction of human time and energy. In his view, bad money eats away at both, forcing people to work longer to buy a house, take a vacation, or pursue artistic interests. Good money, by contrast, gives time and energy back. On that basis, he said Bitcoin and AI can free people from the "drudgery" of bad money.

Mallers pointed to the gold standard era

To illustrate the point, Mallers referenced the Wright brothers and said the United States was on a gold standard when they invented the airplane.

Comments came as Bitcoin posted a strong monthly run

Mallers made the remarks while Bitcoin was going through one of its best stretches in years. Bitcoin rose about 25% in August, marking its strongest monthly performance since 2026. It was also the first positive August since 2021, with the month closing near $78,000.

According to the report, the move higher was driven by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s expansion of long-term bond buybacks. That pushed yields lower and triggered billions of dollars in short liquidations. The "debasement trade" returned to focus, the U.S. dollar weakened, and total U.S. government debt reached $40 trillion.

On the U.S. economy, Mallers called the debt load unsustainable

Mallers said debt at this level is unsustainable. He added that whether rates go up or down no longer matters, because everything is inflationary and difficult to sustain.

Data released last Friday showed that U.S. core CPI, excluding food and energy, rose 0.3% month over month in August, above expectations. The report said the United States is in the middle of an affordability crisis, and markets widely expect the Federal Reserve to raise rates this week to curb inflation.
