Janice noted that when she collected her husband’s belongings from the prison, no such note was mentioned by authorities. “Now it’s being conveniently reported that there was a ‘suicide note’ found in his pocket… another piece of information the media somehow got a hold of before myself and John’s attorneys,” she wrote.

Janice emphasized that her husband was not the kind of person to give up. She described their conversations on the morning of his death: “I spoke with him twice on the 23rd. We discussed the court’s decision to extradite him — it was not a surprise. We had a plan of action to begin the appeal process, and we discussed plans for the next stages of his legal fight. Extradition would not have happened immediately; it would have taken many months at least.”
According to Janice, McAfee told her to “be strong and not to worry,” reassuring her they would continue to fight all necessary appeals. “His last words were ‘I love you, I will call you in the evening,’ but sadly that call never happened.” She stated unequivocally that he would never have committed suicide.
