Tron founder Justin Sun has publicly called out World Liberty Financial (WLFI), a blockchain-based decentralized finance platform, alleging that its token contract contains a hidden blacklist freeze mechanism that locked his $75 million WLFI holdings. Sun, who describes himself as WLFI's largest private investor, disclosed in a statement that his wallet address was blacklisted by an unannounced function within the contract — a high-risk feature never disclosed to investors during the fundraising process.
Sun: Freeze Function Undermines Core DeFi Principles
According to Sun, the freeze function embedded in WLFI's smart contract grants the project team unilateral control over assets, allowing them to freeze or confiscate any holder's tokens without prior warning or recourse. He argued that this design "completely contradicts the fundamental values of decentralized finance" and constitutes "a blatant violation of property rights." Sun emphasized that his $75 million investment was locked without any advance notice or due process, calling the situation "unacceptable."
Sun further alleged that the WLFI team not only concealed the freeze function but also used manipulated community votes to enforce blacklisting and related controls. He claimed that real voting data was withheld, effectively blocking meaningful participation from ordinary token holders, while all final decisions were made by the core team. "This freeze function enables the team to confiscate the digital assets of any participant at will, with no prior warning or recourse," Sun wrote in his public complaint, demanding immediate corrective action and full contract transparency from WLFI.
Demands for Asset Release and Governance Reform
Beyond recovering his frozen tokens, Sun broadened his criticism to WLFI's overall governance standards. He accused the WLFI team of extracting fees and exercising control outside legitimate, community-involved decision-making processes. Sun clarified that his complaints were not directed at other external backers nor driven by political perspective, but strictly focused on WLFI leadership's handling. He called for stronger property rights protections and more robust on-chain governance safeguards within the platform.
World Liberty Financial, which promotes itself as a decentralized financial solution aiming to democratize finance and minimize internal controls, now faces a narrative crisis among DeFi supporters. Sun urged the team to quickly rectify the situation, maintain open communication with investors, and immediately "release the frozen tokens in my wallet," along with a complete overhaul of how governance decisions are made and disclosed. As of press time, WLFI has issued no formal response regarding Sun's allegations or the existence of the undisclosed blacklist function in its code.
