Ledger is stepping into onchain derivatives. The hardware wallet giant has integrated Hyperliquid perpetual futures trading directly into its self-custodial ecosystem through a partnership with DeFi infrastructure provider Yield.xyz. Eligible users can now execute leveraged positions without ever exposing private keys to external platforms, relying instead on hardware-based transaction approvals and clear-signing protections.
JF Rochet, Ledger's Executive Vice President of Consumer Services, said the company aims to bring stronger protection standards into one of crypto's fastest-growing trading categories. Many current perpetual trading environments still expose users to unnecessary operational and security risks, he noted. By tapping into Yield.xyz's non-custodial API framework, Ledger users keep full control of their assets while trading on Hyperliquid — one of the largest onchain perpetual venues by monthly volume.
Yield.xyz Powers the Backend, DeFi Ecosystem Expands
Yield.xyz already supports Ledger's staking, liquid staking, DeFi lending, and real-world asset yield services. This integration extends that infrastructure into derivatives. Through a widget embedded in Ledger Live, users connect directly to Hyperliquid's order books without handing over custody. The setup also addresses long-standing security risks around browser wallets and blind-signing workflows, which Ledger says remain vulnerable to phishing attacks and malicious approvals.
Phased Rollout, Geographic Restrictions Apply
Ledger is rolling out the feature gradually, granting access to roughly 20% of eligible users in selected regions. Several jurisdictions are excluded due to regulatory constraints. In the current phase, users in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, and Ontario (Canada) will not have access. No timeline for wider release has been announced.
Earlier this week, Yield.xyz also introduced an integrated DeFi infrastructure stack for AI agents within Privy, the Stripe-backed wallet platform — a sign that the intersection of automated blockchain applications and decentralized finance is gaining traction.
Ledger's move beyond pure asset storage into full-service trading reflects growing demand for secure, self-custodial access to leveraged markets. Whether hardware-level security can lure more traditional leverage traders remains to be seen, but the protective wall is now in place.
