Lightning Labs has released the alpha version of Wavelength, according to Bitcoin Magazine. The toolkit is designed to give developers and AI agents access to self-custodied Bitcoin payments through a simple non-custodial API, removing the need to run a node, manage payment channels, or source liquidity on their own. Wavelength supports on-chain Bitcoin payments, Lightning Network transactions, and Ark-like settlement layers. For off-chain payments, it uses standard BOLT 11 invoices, which makes it interoperable with the existing Lightning Network. The company is also positioning the toolkit for AI use cases: agents can call the API through the Model Context Protocol, hold balances, and pay for services such as API calls in the smallest units. The product is now live on Signet and testnet, while mainnet access is currently invitation-only. At launch, Wavelength supports Bitcoin, and Lightning Labs plans to add stablecoin support through Taproot Assets.
