Liquid 'White Hat' Hacker Communicates with Blockstream, Promises to Return Most BTC After Fix

Galaxy Research Director Alex Thorn reported that the white-hat hacker of Liquid Network has initiated communication with Blockstream via OP_RETURN and PGP. The hacker offered to return most of the stolen BTC after the vulnerability is fixed, insisting on a patch upgrade for all nodes. Encrypted technical details were also shared. Negotiations continue.

PANews, September 7 – Alex Thorn, Head of Research at Galaxy, shared that the "white hat" hacker behind the Liquid Network exploit has contacted Blockstream using on-chain OP_RETURN messages and PGP-encrypted text.

Blockstream initiated the outreach. The hacker replied: "Can I return most of the funds to a Blockstream address?" Then the hacker set a clear condition: "First fix the vulnerability. Ensure all nodes complete the patch upgrade. Once confirmed, I will return the funds safely."

Additionally, the attacker sent encrypted technical information via PGP, readable only by Blockstream's team. As of now, the two sides remain in ongoing dialogue.
