London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) unveiled a series of leadership changes on July 22 across its European equities operations, encompassing both the London Stock Exchange and its pan-European trading venue Turquoise. The new structure consolidates product development, market structure and business development under a smaller group of executives.
McQuoid Mason Takes on Business Development, Merging Product and Market Structure
Simon McQuoid Mason will add business development to his existing remit of leading new product development and market structure. His responsibilities include shaping trading solutions, forging partnerships, and evolving LSEG's equities offering — a move that links commercial and structural roles, aligning product design with market demand. Charlie Walker, Deputy CEO of London Stock Exchange plc, commented: “We remain committed to operating high quality markets that support our customers’ evolving capital raising and trading needs.” Market structure has become a central factor in equities trading, influencing how liquidity is accessed and how trades are executed. Changes in trading protocols, order types and execution venues have reshaped how market participants interact with exchanges. By combining product development and market structure under one leadership role, LSEG positions itself to adapt its trading environment to shifts in client behavior and regulatory frameworks. Business development also covers expanding relationships with trading firms and asset managers — relationships that affect liquidity provision and adoption of new services.
Turquoise Gets a Dedicated CEO: Tom Stenhouse to Lead Pan-European Expansion
Tom Stenhouse has been appointed CEO of Turquoise, in addition to his role as Head of Product. He will oversee the operation of Turquoise Europe and manage the venue's expansion across European markets. Turquoise operates as a pan-European trading platform offering alternative execution services alongside primary exchanges, providing access to multiple liquidity sources and supporting various trading protocols used by institutional investors. The appointment of a dedicated CEO underscores Turquoise's role within LSEG's broader equities strategy — it serves as a complementary venue to the London Stock Exchange, offering additional execution options and liquidity access. Expanding its European footprint allows LSEG to compete with other pan-European trading platforms. The appointment is subject to regulatory approval, standard for leadership changes at regulated trading venues.
Amsterdam Team Beefed Up: Regional Execution and Client Coverage Strengthened
LSEG also expanded its Turquoise Europe team based in Amsterdam. Elian Matthijssen was appointed Director of Turquoise Europe, responsible for operational oversight and regional expansion; Remko van Moll became Senior Business Development Manager, focusing on client engagement and growth in continental Europe. These roles support Turquoise's expansion across European markets and strengthen relationships with regional clients. Operating from Amsterdam places the team at the center of a key European financial hub, especially after Brexit reshuffled market structure. European equities trading has become more distributed across multiple venues and jurisdictions — requiring exchanges to maintain local presence. The team expansion is part of LSEG's response to a fragmented European market structure: combining leadership changes with regional hires, LSEG positions its equities business to operate within a scattered landscape.
