Seattle-based mining software firm Luxor Technology announced on April 26, 2026, that it has expanded its LuxOS firmware to support MicroBT's Whatsminer series miners, alongside a preliminary investment agreement under which MicroBT commits to purchasing $100 million worth of Luxor hardware.
Key Details of the Partnership
MicroBT, through its investment management arm Inflection Technology Limited (ITL), signed the preliminary agreement with Luxor, marking a deeper strategic alignment between two major players in the cryptocurrency mining industry. LuxOS, already deployed on over 300,000 Bitcoin miners globally, is now extending its firmware ecosystem to MicroBT's popular Whatsminer line, initially supporting select models from the M50 series.
Core Features of LuxOS for Whatsminer
According to the announcement, Whatsminer miners running LuxOS will benefit from several key optimizations:
Power Targeting: This feature ensures stable performance per individual miner, making infrastructure planning more predictable when scaling operations. When operators adjust power targets, LuxOS completes the transition within 30 to 60 seconds while miners continue hashing at higher rates, recovering hash rate that would otherwise be wasted during transitions.
Faster Recovery from Curtailment: LuxOS reduces the time miners need to return to full power after curtailment events. Miners reach maximum power more quickly, minimizing lost hash rate each time a fleet powers down and restarts.
Advanced Thermal Management and Safety: Includes intelligent temperature control, safe and rapid power-off mechanisms, and faster boot times.
Executive Statements and Strategic Importance
Lauren Lin, Head of Hardware and Software at Luxor, stated: “Our customers have been asking for Whatsminer firmware support for years. We’ve launched a product that will bring significant profitability and usability benefits.” She welcomed MicroBT as a strategic investor.
Dr. Yang, CEO and Co-founder of MicroBT, called Luxor a “trusted global partner” and said MicroBT is strategically positioned to support Luxor’s continued growth through hardware partnerships. He emphasized that the investment and hardware purchase agreement will further strengthen the synergy between the two companies in the Bitcoin mining ecosystem.
Ecosystem Integration and Future Plans
Operators using LuxOS will gain access to Luxor’s broader platform, including its Bitcoin mining pool, hash rate derivatives, energy services, and fleet management tool Luxor Commander. Commander includes Intelligent Miner, which automatically adjusts power settings in real time based on hash price and energy prices to maintain maximum profitability for the fleet.
Luxor said it is deploying LuxOS for Whatsminer on a phased basis, working directly with mining partners to ensure deployment quality. The full list of supported models is available at docs.luxor.tech. The company did not disclose a specific timeline for expansion beyond the M50 series.
Industry Impact
This agreement ties together two major names in crypto mining. MicroBT produces ASICs that power a significant portion of the global Bitcoin network, while Luxor has built software and financial tools that large-scale operators rely on. The $100 million hardware commitment signals MicroBT’s long-term confidence in Luxor’s ecosystem and could accelerate industry trends toward firmware standardization and tighter hardware-software integration.
