Seattle-based crypto mining software firm Luxor Technology announced on April 26, 2026, a major partnership with ASIC manufacturer MicroBT. Through its investment arm Inflection Technology Limited, MicroBT signed a preliminary agreement to make a strategic investment in Luxor and committed to purchasing $100 million worth of hardware. Simultaneously, Luxor expanded its proprietary firmware platform LuxOS to MicroBT's Whatsminer M50 series miners, bringing advanced management tools to global miners.
LuxOS Expansion to Whatsminer: Over 300,000 Miners Covered
LuxOS was already deployed on more than 300,000 Bitcoin miners worldwide. This extension brings the same firmware infrastructure to Whatsminer fleets, which account for a significant portion of global Bitcoin hashrate. Initial support covers selected models in the M50 series, with Luxor working directly with a group of mining partners to roll out the firmware and plans to add more models over time.
Lauren Lin, Head of Hardware and Software at Luxor, stated: “Customers have been asking for Whatsminer firmware support for years. We have launched a product that will bring significant profitability and utility benefits.” Dr. Yang, CEO and co-founder of MicroBT, called Luxor a “trusted global partner” and said MicroBT is strategically positioned to support Luxor's continued growth through hardware partnerships.
New Features: Power Targeting and Fast Recovery
Whatsminer miners running LuxOS gain several new capabilities:
- Power Targeting: Delivers consistent performance per individual miner, making infrastructure planning more predictable when scaling.
- Advanced Thermal Management: Optimizes cooling to extend hardware lifespan.
- Fast Safe Shutdown and Startup: After power events, miners complete power transitions within 30-60 seconds while continuing to mine at higher hash rates, recovering hashrate that would otherwise be lost during transitions.
- Quicker Curtailment Recovery: After fleet power reductions, miners return to full power faster, minimizing lost hashrate per minute.
These features combine with Luxor's broader platform – including a Bitcoin mining pool, hashrate derivatives, energy services, and Luxor Commander – which gives operators real-time power setting adjustments based on hash price and energy price to maintain optimal fleet profitability.
Strategic Depth: From Hardware Purchase to Software Integration
The agreement ties together two major names in crypto mining. MicroBT manufactures machines that power a large portion of the global Bitcoin network, while Luxor has developed software and financial tools that large-scale operators rely on. Beyond firmware, MicroBT's strategic investment through Inflection Technology Limited and the $100 million hardware purchase commitment signal a move from vendor relationship to deeper alliance.
Luxor also operates a bitcoin mining pool, hashrate derivatives desk, energy services, and Luxor Commander for fleet management. All operators using LuxOS will have access to these tools. The partnership is expected to further optimize large-scale mining operations, lower electricity costs, and enhance overall Bitcoin network stability.
