Lyft, a leading ride-sharing company with over 2 million drivers across the U.S. and Canada, has officially partnered with Bee Maps, a solutions provider leveraging the Solana-based Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) Hivemapper, to capture and maintain fresh street-level mapping data. This strategic move aims to enhance navigation accuracy for both drivers and passengers while laying the groundwork for future autonomous ride-hailing services.
Collaboration Since 2024: A Quiet Integration
According to a blog post published by Lyft, the collaboration with Bee Maps has been underway since 2024, involving close coordination between mapping engineering teams in the United States and Europe. Bee Maps utilizes Hivemapper’s decentralized network, which collects street-level imagery and data through a global fleet of dashcam-equipped vehicles incentivized with tokens. Hivemapper stated: “We’re proud to see Lyft relying on our network to help build and maintain its maps. The best ride-hailing marketplaces want the freshest map data.”
Hivemapper: A DePIN Pioneer on Solana
Hivemapper is a decentralized mapping protocol built on the Solana blockchain. It rewards contributors with its native token for capturing geospatial data. As of May 8, 2025, the network had surpassed 500 million kilometers of mapped roads worldwide. Ariel Seidman, co-founder and CEO of Bee Maps, commented: “Lyft recognized that old-school mapping couldn’t keep up with the real world.
