The organization targets what it describes as draconian sentencing laws that disproportionately affect nonviolent offenders.
Personal Tragedy Sparks a Movement
Lyn introduced MACS during the Women of Bitcoin Brunch, a high-profile event celebrating influential women in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Her motivation stems from her son's case: Ross Ulbricht was sentenced to life in prison without parole for his involvement in operating the Silk Road darknet marketplace. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump granted Ross a full pardon.
“Multiple thousands of people, many of them nonviolent like Ross, are serving extreme sentences—locked away for years, decades, even lifetimes,” Lyn stated in her announcement. MACS aims to serve as a voice for affected families, advocating for sentencing practices where the punishment corresponds justly with the offense.
MACS Mission and Strategy
According to the MACS website: “We are a coalition of mothers—and others—who believe it is time to return to reasonable and fair sentencing.” The organization is structured as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focusing on dismantling excessively punitive sentencing laws and assisting families in navigating their consequences. Key strategies include advocacy campaigns, educational initiatives, and grassroots mobilization.
The group's portal states: “Exorbitant sentences that do not fit the crime are un-American, immoral, and unconstitutional.” MACS champions a justice model that prioritizes equity and empathy while providing tools and support to those ensnared by excessive penal outcomes.

Lyn’s announcement resonated deeply with the Bitcoin conference audience, many of whom have long viewed Ross Ulbricht’s sentence as a symbol of judicial overreach. Attendees were invited to support MACS through donations, petition signings, and volunteer work. The organization plans to collaborate with lawmakers at both federal and state levels to promote sentencing reform legislation.
