Magic Eden has announced the shutdown of its native wallet on May 1, 2026. Users must export private keys or seed phrases before the deadline to avoid permanent asset loss. The platform is pivoting to Solana and its gaming platform Dicey.

May 1 is the deadline. Magic Eden has officially declared that its native wallet entered "export-only" mode on April 1, 2026, and will be fully decommissioned after one month—users who fail to back up their private keys or seed phrases will lose access to their on-chain assets permanently.

Shrinking Footprint: Dropping Ethereum and Bitcoin, Betting on Solana and Dicey

The wallet shutdown is not an isolated move. Since early 2026, Magic Eden has been cutting segments: it closed its Ethereum and Bitcoin marketplaces on March 9, and terminated Bitcoin API services on March 27. Now the wallet joins the list. The direction is clear: all resources are being concentrated on the Solana ecosystem and its gaming platform Dicey.

Dicey launched a closed beta in January 2026, attracting about 200 users who placed over $15 million in bets within the first two months—impressive early numbers. The platform runs on Solana and follows an on-chain gambling model, a far cry from its original NFT trading marketplace.

ME Token Mechanics: Revenue Buyback and Staking Rewards

Alongside business restructuring, the ME token's economic model is worth noting. Magic Eden allocates 15% of platform revenue to token buybacks: half is used to buy ME directly from the open market, the other half is distributed as USDC to staking users on a monthly basis. Staking rewards are determined by "amount staked × lock-up period," with longer locks yielding higher multipliers.

This mechanism ties platform revenue to token holders. If Dicey continues to grow in volume, it could theoretically boost buyback scale. However, whether the platform can successfully pivot from NFT marketplace to a long-term player in gambling and entertainment remains uncertain.

User Action Guide: Export Now

Time is pressing. Key facts: The wallet was removed from all app stores on April 1; existing installations can still be used locally to export private keys. After May 1, the service will be fully terminated, with all functions ceasing and no way to recover assets. Magic Eden recommends exporting private keys or seed phrases and importing them into mainstream Solana wallets like Phantom or Backpack.

For context, Magic Eden partnered with Donald Trump in June 2025 to launch the TRUMP Wallet, which generated market excitement and sent ME token prices surging. Now, as the wallet business fully contracts, that partnership glow has faded.
