Marvell announced on Aug. 4 that it has introduced the Bravera SC6 SSD Controller, model MV-SF1410, targeting the PCIe Gen6 NVMe SSD segment for AI data centers, hyperscale cloud infrastructure, and enterprise database workloads. The company said samples are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Marvell said the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure is raising the importance of high-speed storage. As large AI models continue to scale, system design is moving toward what the company described as a memory-agnostic architecture. In that model, systems do not rely entirely on costly and capacity-constrained GPU high-bandwidth memory, or HBM, and instead use a tiered memory hierarchy.
Within that structure, NVMe SSDs are positioned as a capacity tier that can deliver tens or even hundreds of terabytes at a lower cost than HBM and DRAM for large dataset storage. Marvell said this can help AI systems maintain high GPU utilization while lowering overall infrastructure costs. The company added that SSDs are shifting from traditional storage devices into core components of AI memory architecture.
PCIe Gen6 and NVMe 2.2 support
Bravera SC6 uses a PCIe Gen6 host interface and remains backward compatible with PCIe Gen1 through Gen5, which Marvell said allows enterprises to upgrade storage systems in stages instead of replacing existing infrastructure all at once. The controller also complies with the NVMe 2.2 specification and includes end-to-end data protection for enterprise data integrity.
16 NAND channels and up to 3600 MT/s
On the flash side, Bravera SC6 supports both ONFI and Toggle NAND standards and offers speeds of up to 3600 MT/s. It includes 16 NAND channels, with support for 8 chip enables per channel, a setup aimed at high-capacity enterprise SSD designs.
The controller is compatible with major NAND flash types in use today, including SLC, MLC, TLC, and QLC. Marvell also said it integrates sixth-generation NANDEdge technology, an LDPC error-correction engine, and hardware RAID to improve SSD reliability and endurance under heavy workloads.
15 processing cores for storage workloads
Marvell said modern SSD controllers handle more than data transfer alone. They also manage flash translation layer functions, wear leveling, garbage collection, and security encryption. Bravera SC6 uses a multicore design that includes 12 Arm Cortex-R82 cores arranged in two six-core clusters, 3 Arm Cortex-M7 cores, and 1 Cortex-M3 security processor.
According to the company, the total of 15 processing cores allows multiple storage management tasks to run in parallel, reducing latency and improving throughput. The controller also includes 5MB of SRAM, a 64-bit DDR5 memory interface, and an additional 8-bit ECC capability to improve metadata handling efficiency and cache performance.
Enterprise security features
For security, Bravera SC6 includes a dedicated Cortex-M3 security processor and a built-in hardware cryptographic module supporting AES, SHA, RSA, and ECC. Marvell said the controller can meet Trusted Computing Group enterprise storage security standards for disk encryption, authentication, and key management while keeping encryption workloads from degrading SSD performance.
Support for multiple NAND suppliers
Marvell said Bravera SC6 can work with NAND flash from multiple suppliers. The company noted that the previous-generation Bravera SC5 had already been publicly linked with NAND makers including Kioxia, SK hynix, and YMTC. Marvell also said its SSD controller strategy is open, allowing cloud service providers and OEMs to pair products from major NAND vendors based on supply chain conditions, cost, and performance requirements.
The company said Bravera SC6 is aimed at next-generation AI infrastructure, high-performance computing, and enterprise storage markets, with sampling set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
