TechFlow reported on June 14, citing Reuters, that Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg told employees in an internal memo that the company had made mistakes during its shift toward artificial intelligence. The process involved layoffs and job reassignments designed to move more organizational resources into AI-related work.
Internal memo acknowledges errors during the reorganization
In the memo, Zuckerberg said organizational change is highly complex. As Meta pushed its AI transition through layoffs and role adjustments, the company did not avoid execution mistakes. He also told employees that the company could still make new mistakes in the future, while management would work to make the adjustment process more stable and reduce the disruption caused by internal changes.
In May this year, Meta cut about 10% of its workforce and reassigned roughly 7,000 employees to AI-related roles. The move was intended to support model training and the development of artificial intelligence businesses. It was also described as an important part of Meta’s continued AI strategy. The personnel changes included both job cuts and role transfers, moving some employees from their previous positions into AI projects.
Meta says it does not expect further companywide layoffs this year
Addressing employee concerns, Zuckerberg said Meta does not expect to carry out another round of companywide layoffs this year. For employees who have been moved into AI projects, the company will try to find new internal positions where possible, in order to reduce the impact of the organizational changes on staff.
The memo reported by Reuters brings together several elements of Meta’s current AI transition: staffing cuts, internal role changes, management’s acknowledgment of mistakes, and the company’s position on layoffs for the remainder of the year. Meta is continuing to support artificial intelligence work and model training while seeking a more stable internal adjustment process.
