MetaMask's mobile wallet now supports perpetual futures trading through a partnership with Hyperliquid. Users can update to version 7.56 or later on iOS or Android, then use any token on EVM chains – ETH, USDT, BNB, or any ERC-20 asset – as margin. The system automatically converts it to USDC on the backend, no bridging, no separate transfer, and no extra fee.
Auto-swap collateral removes cross-chain friction
Previously, trading decentralized perpetuals required manually converting tokens into the accepted margin currency, often involving a bridge for cross-chain assets. MetaMask's design eliminates that: the selected token is instantly swapped to USDC, and users can go long or short on over 150 markets – including crypto, US stocks, commodities, and forex. Leverage goes up to 40x.
Hyperliquid engine: deep on-chain order book
The trading engine is powered entirely by Hyperliquid. For Hyperliquid, MetaMask provides a massive distribution channel – one of the largest EVM wallets globally. For MetaMask, it gains an on-chain order book with real depth and speed that would be costly to build in-house. The logic is straightforward: one has users, the other has the service.
Supported trading pairs include BTC, ETH, SOL, along with stocks like NVIDIA (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT), and crypto-exposed equities such as Circle (CRCL) and Coinbase (COIN).
MetaMask's roadmap: from wallet to super app
This launch follows MetaMask's broader transformation: Swaps went live years ago, Earn was integrated, and now Perps. Predictions markets are next – the company has announced a exclusive integration of Polymarket. The endgame is clear: let users conduct all on-chain activities without needing to download Binance, Bybit, or any centralized exchange app.
Perpetuals account for over 70% of crypto trading volume, historically dominated by CEXs. Decentralized perpetual protocols like Hyperliquid are structurally reshaping the landscape. MetaMask's "any token as collateral" design targets the friction that keeps users on CEXs. Closing the gap in liquidity, speed, and user habits will take more than a single feature update – but the direction is set.
